U.S Senate Candidate Karen Breslin Wins Track AIPAC Endorsement;
Calls out Hickenlooper on pro-Israel lobby contributions
ELIZABETH, CO - Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Karen Breslin has earned the endorsement of Track AIPAC, a grassroots national network exposing the corrosive influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and corporate lobbies on U.S. domestic and foreign policy, Breslin announced today.
Breslin has pledged not to take contributions from AIPAC. Her opponent John Hickenlooper has accepted over $333,000 from AIPAC and allied groups, according to Track AIPAC. A UN panel has labeled the violence in Gaza a genocide, as has a panel of genocide scholars, highlighting the moral bankruptcy of current US policy.
In July, Hickenlooper joined 19 Senate Democrats in opposing resolutions to cut off some arms to Israel. That vote took on new weight on the early morning of Sept. 16, when Israel launched a new major ground offensive and occupation of Gaza City that killed more than 100 Palestinians and destroyed homes, mosques, and neighborhoods.
“It’s obvious that when a genocide is transpiring for all the world to see, and you have elected officials who are unwilling to vote against it, there must be some reason. And the best reason that anyone has been able to surface is the amount of money that AIPAC has been injecting into the political process,” Breslin said.
Colorado's US senators have amassed significant support from pro-Israel PACs over recent election cycles. According to Open Secrets, Sen. Michael Bennet has received approximately $466,640 from pro-Israel PACs since 1990 while Sen. John Hickenlooper has accepted $272,949.
“Groups will give money because they align with candidates ideologically. So it's not just that the money could be corrupting, but the money is also an indicator of the kinds of positions that a candidate actually believes in.” Breslin said. “Either way, I will never prioritize the largest corporations and the wealthiest donors over the interests of working Americans. That is the core problem with our system of government.”
Karen Breslin is a political science professor, lawyer, former journalist, and former long-term program manager with the National Park Service. In addition to her law degree, she holds an M.A. in political science and completed graduate coursework at the Korbel School of International Studies at Denver University. Her campaign is focused on meeting the needs of working people, defending the US Constitution and fighting Trump’s authoritarian agenda.
